Cakes for the "Pops"

These are a few cakes I've done for the Dad's, Pop's, Grandpa's in people's lives recently! Golf, sports teams and baseball! I tend to do a lot of girlie or kid themed cakes, so it's fun to throw some masculine themes into the mix!!

Summer Cupcakes: Surboard + Hibiscus cupcake toppers

Happy Weekending! These beachy cupcakes have me dreaming of playing in the sand with my little guy and taking a dip in the salty waves!

Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and handmade fondant surfboards and hibiscus flowers I did not too long ago for a client!

Sleeping babies, bottles, bibs and buttons baby shower cupcakes!

Happy Friday! I have a few cupcake orders this weekend, so I thought I'd share some recent baby shower cupcakes I did. These are probably some of my favorite cupcake toppers I've done to date! The cuteness is killing me, mostly likely due to my own pregnancy hormones and baby fever. These were gender neutral, but could easily be customizable for either boy or girl!

Graduation Cake + Cupcakes this June

Graduation cupcakes with handmade cap, scroll and year fondant toppers.
Graduation cupcakes representing the interest of the graduating senior, which were sports and music. She was also in the musical "Shrek" this year at her high school, so we incorporated shrek cupcakes too!
This was a law school graduation from William and Mary. I did an edible image of their logo and also 2015 decorated sugar cookies to go with the cake with the school's colors.

Sofia the First Cupcake Dress + Pirate Cupcakes

My first Sofia the First cake! I love getting introduced to new things by my customers on a daily basis. I certainly had never heard of this TV show before. So, to incorporate Sofia into cake form. We decided to do her beautiful dress. Piped rose swirls, with some fondant details and a candy necklace charm.

This very considerate customer also wanted to do some pirate cupcakes for the little boys at the party! How cute are their little faces!

Wedding cupcake tower with fruit topped cupcakes and rustic cutting cake

Cupcakes have really been the "it" wedding cake choice for a little while now. I have another one coming up this fall. This couple really wanted to incorporate fresh and fruity flavors in their wedding cupcakes and cake. The cutting cake on top is lemon pound with buttercream frosting. The cupcakes are blueberry with lemon buttercream and lemon with vanilla buttercream all topped with fresh berries.  The cupcakes were also tinted different shades of purple to go along with their wedding colors.
I especially love how fresh and appetizing a cupcake looks with fresh fruit. Perfect for summertime. Another fun detail was this hand crafted and personalized wedding cake topper! It tied in their rustic theme perfectly!

Baby Shower Cupcakes + Baby Bottle Cookie Favors

I did a version of these baby shower cupcakes, originally for a close friend's baby shower (Shown below in hot pink). I've done a couple variations for both boy and girls, since. Each time I like to add a fun new detail like a ruffly bib, a different kind of pacifier or baby booties. They are so fun and the sky is the limit when it come to cute fondant cupcake toppers!

This customer also order baby bottle cookies as favors to go with the cupcakes picture above. I have more recently dove into the world of decorated cookies, per the request of so many clients. I was always hesitant before, not because I didn't like to decorate them, but I never had an amazing sugar cookie recipe or a royal icing that was tried and true. I can happily say I do have an amazing sugar cookie recipe, that is a little like a shortbread cookie with vanilla and hints of almond. SO GOOD! And the royal icing has been  trial and error and I have found one that can pipe shells or flood cookies very effectively! Yay. So if you find yourself needing some decorated cookies for an event, let me know! I really love doing them now and can't wait to try more in the future!

Beach Cakes all Winter Long!

I think I did more beach themed cakes this winter than ever before. Not that I minded. It was a long and cold one and making waves, sand, beach balls and sea shells was a little reprieve to the snow blowing outside.

The first cake was an ode to childhood at the beach. Pails of sand, sandcastles, hovering seagulls, sunscreen and flip-flops. Truly one of my favorites. The second cake pictured was for the adult beach lover. Aqua ombre waves of buttercream on the side and hand painted seashells and sand on top! A very serene cake.
The third cake is for a girl who loves the beach, loves dolphins and lighthouses. It took me to a scene from a North Caroline beach. One I hope to visit someday.

So we'll see what the summer holds. Will I do any beach cakes? Or are they most needed/ requested in the winter in memeory of a warmer, sunnier and sandier time.

zinnia + dahlia piped cupcakes

Here we are in January. The cold barren month that it is in PA. This post was screaming out to me  with it's bright colors and summer flowers, to be shared in a time when there is just snow, and even worse when there is just brown. These flowers are hand piped butter-cream flowers.  Free form that ended up looking very much like  dahlias or zinnias with their numerous grouping of petals. Some of my favorite flowers really! I hope these bring your heart some cheer in these frozen months to come!

Wedding Dress Bridal Shower Cake + Cupcakes

This is probably the most elaborate bridal shower cake I've ever done! I love how bold the cake sits up on the stand with the accent cupcakes around it. This was my first time making a 3d  wedding dress and I love how it turned out. The dress was made with two  4" cake pans plus I baked the top round layer in a small glass bowl so I wouldn't have to do a whole lot of carving! It held up really well and gave it the shape I was hoping for. I brushed the bottom of the dress in a fine layer of fine sanding sugar to give it a beaded look! Topped it off with a few rosettes and some white poppies!

Monster Inc. Cake + Cupcake

This was probably one of my favorite requests this year! Don't get me wrong, I love pretty much everything people throw my way as a cake decorator. I love a challenge, especially something I've never attempted before, but for some reason this cake just got me very excited to do what I do. This Monster's cake was a lot of firsts. I've never done a pixar character before, or baked a round cake (used to make Mike) so that was some good learning experiences. I've been working with a new fondant, one that tastes sooooooooo much better than the other I had used in the past. It tastes like marshmallows. While I love the new taste, it's a bit softer than I'm use to working with, so that brought about a whole new set of challenges. I've picked up a few tricks of the trade and things seem to be working out great! So here are a few more shots of Mike sitting on Sulley from Monsters!

I also did a smash cupcake with a little Sulley.

Bumble Bee Baby Shower Cake + Cupcakes

This has definitely been the year of the baby shower cake for Snacky French! That's just fine with me. I have certainly been able to play around with quite a few themes and ideas for each cake or cupcake order I've received!
This hive and bumble bee cake was especially great to make! I love these bee invites! Their heart wings and honeycomb design ( on the back) were a great inspiration for my design. The cupcakes have a fondant hexagon on each cake to look like honeycomb. Topped with bees and their buzzing trail and a few flowers mixed in for variety! The hive came together nicely, especially with the addition of the "flying bees" hovering around the cake. It was my first time suspending anything above a cake, so I was delighted that it worked out, just how I was envisioned it.
I also had the pleasure of being in attendance to this shower, since it was a relative, which made it that much sweeter!

Lego Cake and Cupcakes

Here is a incredibly fun cake I did recently for a little boy who LOVES legos. Who doesn't? I remember playing with them for hours and hours. We are looking forward to doing the same with our son. The cupcakes below here were something new I tried for this order. Homemade funfetti cupcakes sans all the artificial flavors! I think they will be a great addition to the cupcake lineup!

Minion Cupcakes

These minion cupcakes were a lot of fun to make! Underneath their fondant faces are vanilla cupcakes with vanilla butter cream! These little guys were for another little guy who was turning 2! You can't help but love their quirky little faces! It was fun to do them as cupcake toppers this time. You may remember my other minion birthday cake ! Happy Friday and stay tuned for more cake coming up!
I also share some #snackyfrench #sneakpeaks of my upcoming cakes over on instagram! You can find me here @snackyfrench if your curious what I'm up to! ( Of course there may be a lot of pictures of my son scattered in there too :)

Yeti and Peppermint Cupcakes

These yeti cupcakes were perfect, for all the snowy days we seem to be having. They along with these chocolate peppermint ones were ones I did recently! The yeti ones were vanilla cake with marshmallow cream filling and vanilla buttercream! The peppermint ones were chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and peppermint buttercream topped with candy cane sugar! Just wanted to share a little of what's been happening this Christmas season over here.

Merry Christmas!
