Mother's Day + Memorial Day

 It's been a little while since I did a family update. So here are two weekends that we had a lot of fun recently! Mother's day was lovely. A hike in our old stomping grounds of Frenchtown. Followed by lunch at Moo, a walk around Lake Nochamixon and a some ice cream at our favorite Owowcow!

Memorial Day was spent up in the mountains visiting Family! It was a nice weekend to get away, and we even had friends come up for a day as well. We enjoyed some hikes, a wagon ride and time with our family who we don't get to see too often. May was a good month!

Christmas 2012 ( a first for our little man)

a day at the beach + our picnic loaf

 ever since our rainy, cold weekend in montauk, i've been dreaming about a good day at the beach. one that's hot enough to love the water and windy enough to cool off. we had planned to go earlier in the week with my sister's family, but the threat of rain had us all a little bit unsure... so we ended up not going that day. later in the week the weather looked up and we headed to ocean city for the day. it really was perfect. we got a leisurely start, didn't hit much traffic, found a good spot before it got crowded and bummed it up. reading and chatting till it got too hot. playing in the ocean until it got too cold. repeat!

we had a great picnic lunch. the picnic loaf was a new sandwich that i'm definitely going to make again.  basically it was a petite french loaf that i cut the top off of and scooped out some of the inside bread to make room for the fixings. you could put anything inside really... it's a rather fun way of keeping everything contained, instead of falling out the sides. this particular combo was tuna with balsamic vinegar, sea salt and olive oil. pesto spread onto the bread, tomato, mozzarella, roasted red pepper and fresh basil. so good.

30 weeks ( a vacation to montauk)

  we decided to take a little vacation while we could. this babe is getting bigger, making traveling a little more uncomfortablle. we went to the beach town montauk on long island. its was pretty  much the beginning of the season up there, so it was a bit of a ghost town. we took advantage of that by enjoying leisurely time on the beach almost completely by ourselves. what we lacked in sunshine, we made up for in yummy food and relaxation. the sun did pop its head out for the half hour we were eating pancakes inside one morning ( oh that sneaky sun) but that was it. the rest of our time was mist and fog. which was rather enchanting after i realized there was to be no sun.

this whole beach bum thing was new for us and much needed. you see, we tend to take adventuresome vacations. one's where there  is a whole lot of moving from thing to thing. sleeping in tents or cars, or carrying big packs around with us. so this total snails pace, do what you want when you want was a nice change. never worrying about the time or missing something really cool. it was a total break from life.

and this babe has found its way into my ribs, quite an interesting feeling. these new feelings and experiences with pregnancy never cease to amaze me.

24 weeks ( and a day in D.C.)

6 months pregnant! time is really starting to fly by. we are doing great overall. enjoying the lovely weather of late. we took a day to see the cherry blossoms in d.c., and it was truly one of the nicest days we could have hoped for. a balmy 80 degrees. the blossoms were lovely... i think i'm enjoying sping even more than fall this year, and usually that is my favorite season. but spring is really delighting me this year! perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it's one season closer to meeting this wee one inside me!

 so we spent the morning walking around the tidal basin

 then stopped at georgetown cupcake ( home of the show d.c. cupcake) for some ridiculously good cupcakes. yes there was a line out the door, and yes we payed a bit too much for these sweet treats, but it was our splurge. some girls like jewelry, i like sweets. it is my business after all!

we had some delicious pizza for lunch, followed by the smithsonian art museum  and a spanish tapas dinner with good friends, later that evening!
