28 weeks

  7 months:
lets start off by saying that time is moving so fast. it's not too stressful, though, we are making good progress on the projects and things we'd like to get done before july.

this week we are really focusing on the babies space. painting, putting up a ceiling fan, installing some proper outlets. and then we can begin to fill the space and make it a real room. that will feel so nice.

hoping that my glucose test comes back negative!
wondering why only my right calf and ankle seem to swell now?
wishing we could have a garden this year, but knowing that's not a realistic possibility.

loving the constant rotations of fresh flowers in the house, cut from the backyard.
missing just a little bit: brie, sushi, sleep, and a glass of wine.

life is well. sure i have my emotional days, where things just seem like too much, but the good days and excitement and happiness in this current stage of my life certainly out number those days by many.

crafting baby things

just a quick little update. since moving my craft space to our guest bedroom, there has been an increase in productivity! birds for a baby mobile are done. working on some burp cloths and wipes and a few other projects... enjoying this energy at this point. it's very exciting when i actually put these ideas into actions!

  • next week there will be... an exhaust fan, safe lights, and an OUTLET for our bathroom.
  • potty training our cat. well, attempting to. scoff you may, but if this works, we'll be done scooping and buying litter!
  • a surprise visit from miss kerah kemmerer!
  • a little mini vacation set for may!
  • easter celebration x2 at the hunsbergers and rittenhouses. we are stockpiled with chocolate over here!
  • these photos were taken at the rittenhouse homestead! so pretty up there right now!
  • knit a baby bonnet that will probably fit this babe in oh, about 2-3 years. oops.
  • made some double sided baby wipes. fleece and terry cloth. hoping they will do their job well.
  • that's the latest. we are in busy bee mode, but enjoy our outings together, a quick milkshake, a short walk and other daily adventures together while it's just us 2.

24 weeks ( and a day in D.C.)

6 months pregnant! time is really starting to fly by. we are doing great overall. enjoying the lovely weather of late. we took a day to see the cherry blossoms in d.c., and it was truly one of the nicest days we could have hoped for. a balmy 80 degrees. the blossoms were lovely... i think i'm enjoying sping even more than fall this year, and usually that is my favorite season. but spring is really delighting me this year! perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it's one season closer to meeting this wee one inside me!
so we spent the morning walking around the tidal basin

then stopped at georgetown cupcake ( home of the show d.c. cupcake) for some ridiculously good cupcakes. yes there was a line out the door, and yes we payed a bit too much for these sweet treats, but it was our splurge. some girls like jewelry, i like sweets. it is my business after all!

we had some delicious pizza for lunch, followed by the smithsonian art museum  and a spanish tapas dinner with good friends, later that evening!

  • we enjoyed this spring day ,outdoors, with friends at st. peters village and shady maple!
  • there has been a flurry of activity in our house. moving my craft stuff out of (what will be the babies room) and setting it up in our guest bedroom, lots of cleaning and organizing too!
  • we now have a dresser/ changing table for the babies room and a comfy rocking-like chair. ( thanks impact and ikea)
  • this past weekend was spent with my sister! we enjoyed some shopping, a first bike ride of the season, complete with a cupcake and coffee picnic!
  • baby movements are a continuous and joyous occasion
  • we are enjoying letting our toes peek out of the covers and sleeping with windows open. a first for march,  i believe.
  • jason has been spoiling me, by leaving chocolate bars at random places for me to find and enjoy.
  • getting very excited for our day to washington d.c. to see the cherry blossoms and visit the smithsonian.
  • wondering if we'll be able to squeeze in a mini vacation before the bear cub arrives
  • getting very very excited to meet this little one!

20 weeks ( although its more like 21)

time got away from me with this update. it was suppose to happen last week, but last week turned out to be busier than expected and i wasn't in the picture taking mood!
so here it is... a update for 20 weeks
  •   i ended up having a second  ultrasound so that they could measure the spine of the baby, because the first time it wouldn't uncurl from its cozy little ball. i took this opportunity to have my mom and nieces join us for the ultrasound. it was extra special to have them there.
  • we were watching my nieces while their parents got some anniversary time in Vermont! it was a fun weekend of crafting paper garlands, making candles, thrifting, milkshakes and playing old games that i grew up with and they came to love too!
  • we had another midwife appointment! everything on the ultrasound looked good!
  • this dress i'm wearing is one out of my grandmothers closet. i always knew it would make a good maternity dress!
  • the "bear cub" ( our babe) has been on my bladder a lot these days.
  • i asked jason if he wanted to cut the cord at birth and he just looks at me wide eyed! ( i think it just became a little more real to him at that moment)
  • i have started to feel MOVEMENT from the bear cub! it's been really interesting. i was hesitant to call it that at first. Now there is little denying this strange and wonderful sensation i'm feeling. hopefully jason can experience this movement pretty soon too!

18 weeks + ultrasound pictures

 right now:
  •   we made a lovely valentines dinner on tuesday night! these cheddar biscuits were a hit! ( there was also a surprise bed fort made by mr. rittenhouse) in which we enjoyed listening to this free v-day playlist and eating  homemade shortbreads with sea salted caramel gelato!
  •  pretty sure this fox will be finding its way into the kiddos nursery
  • my sweet tooth prevails!
  • had our first ultrasound! it was magical to see our babes face, see its feet move around and see it curl up stubbornly into a ball, so that the ultrasound tech  had to schedule another one so she could get a proper look at its spine. thats is fine with me. i'll be happy to take another loving look at this babe growing inside me.
  • so delighted to hear that friends of ours had their baby this week. elliot grey, we can't wait to meet you.
  • there is knitting underway... more on that later!

    quilting 101

it has been a long time desire of mine to learn to quilt. my grammy was such an avid quilter and i cherish the quilts from her. for her, those fabric scraps told stories of her life with a family. scraps from a dress here, a shirt there, no longer able to be worn but with lots of life left in them.
so i've been very blessed to have a friend who is taking me under her wing, to teach me how to quilt. with a baby on the brain, it seemed logical to start with a baby quilt. my friend has such a  great collection of fun vintage looking fabric, it was hard to choose from them all. but in the end we did and here's a little sampling of whats to come!
    here's the pattern we're using.

    2.03.2012

    16 weeks

     a little life update:
    • there is indeed a belly now!
    • enjoyed a date night with jason, making chocolate chip cookies and playing "bonkers" (a favorite childhood game my mom recently gifted me)
    • enjoyed some time with my friend who recently gave birth
    • we have decided to wait until we give birth to find out the sex of our wee one.
    • enjoyed a few walks outside in only a t-shirt! fully enjoying this little tease of spring
    • we now have a ceiling fan in our kitchen! continuing to work and make plans for the kitchen and laundry room.
    • cruised babys r us and ikea recently... trying to make sense of all the baby gear. too many options! our hope is to keep it simple
    a few more shots
