Alaskan Cruise Cake

This was a cake for a co-workers birthday! She was headed off on an Alaskan cruise, shortly after this party. Jason and I would love to see Alaska one day. It's definitely on our travel bucket list.

I had a lot of fun with this cake, from the tiny cruise ship details to the icebergs and little penguin hanging out. So much fun!! I also recently got a stamp set, that I've set aside specifically for fondant, so I had fun imprinting the message with stamps for a change.

 Happy birthday Louise!

Galaxy+ Constellations Cake

This was one crazy fun cake to do. Swirls of white, purple, dark and light blue buttercream, and flaked shimmery sprinkles did an excellent job of making it look like the milky way. I added some constellations, incorporating the birthday girls name and age and a few planets.

Happy weekend all! Take a moment to look up at the awesome summer sky tonight!

Strawberry Shortcake Wedding Cake

I recently had the pleasure of doing this simple, rustic strawberry shortcake cutting cake for the wedding of a sweet couple I know. They had a strawberry shortcake bar for their guests at the reception ( what an awesome idea) so for their cake we went with the same flavors, so they could get a taste. The cake was vanilla pound with a fresh strawberry filling and vanilla buttercream. Decorated with some burlap and fresh flowers to go with their beach themed decor. So happy for you Amanda and Tyler! Your day looked beautiful. Head over to Moody Photographers for more photos of this lovely wedding!

Family of foxes adoption cake

I was beyond thrilled when my client told me she wanted to order a cake for an adoption baby shower. The family was adopting a young boy and this little boy loved foxes. I thought it would be fun to do a fox family* to incorporate that theme and have a fun representation of their little family!

* The fox cake toppers are handmade by me, with fondant

Cakes for the "Pops"

These are a few cakes I've done for the Dad's, Pop's, Grandpa's in people's lives recently! Golf, sports teams and baseball! I tend to do a lot of girlie or kid themed cakes, so it's fun to throw some masculine themes into the mix!!

Woodland Baby Shower Cake

I definitely have a soft spot for all things woodland themed! I used that in Liam's room to decorate and also for his first birthday cake . So When I was asked to use that as a theme for a recent baby shower cake, I was overjoyed. Fun, whimsical and gender neutral.

Simple Beehive Bridal Shower Cake + XO cookie favors

Happy Sunday! I just wanted to share this simple beehive cake I did  for a bridal shower a little while ago. Sometimes the simplest ones are the ones I like the most! The bees are fondant with almond slivers for wings. The cake was chocolate with a honey buttercream.
These were the favors that went with this shower. Sets of XOXO sugar cookies in blush, champagne and ivory! Simple and sweet!

Graduation Cake + Cupcakes this June

Graduation cupcakes with handmade cap, scroll and year fondant toppers.
Graduation cupcakes representing the interest of the graduating senior, which were sports and music. She was also in the musical "Shrek" this year at her high school, so we incorporated shrek cupcakes too!
This was a law school graduation from William and Mary. I did an edible image of their logo and also 2015 decorated sugar cookies to go with the cake with the school's colors.

Wedding cupcake tower with fruit topped cupcakes and rustic cutting cake

Cupcakes have really been the "it" wedding cake choice for a little while now. I have another one coming up this fall. This couple really wanted to incorporate fresh and fruity flavors in their wedding cupcakes and cake. The cutting cake on top is lemon pound with buttercream frosting. The cupcakes are blueberry with lemon buttercream and lemon with vanilla buttercream all topped with fresh berries.  The cupcakes were also tinted different shades of purple to go along with their wedding colors.
I especially love how fresh and appetizing a cupcake looks with fresh fruit. Perfect for summertime. Another fun detail was this hand crafted and personalized wedding cake topper! It tied in their rustic theme perfectly!

Floral Cakes

Floral cakes have been something I've come to love more and more. I've tried to push myself outside of the box with this. Whether I'm making them to match an invite like the first picture or covering the cake in roses, incorporating old vintage wedding flowers or making,  hand sculpted/ painted flowers for a little girls dedication. Each one is unique and something I may not have ever tried before, which keeps me motivated and excited for each new project!

Beach Cakes all Winter Long!

I think I did more beach themed cakes this winter than ever before. Not that I minded. It was a long and cold one and making waves, sand, beach balls and sea shells was a little reprieve to the snow blowing outside.

The first cake was an ode to childhood at the beach. Pails of sand, sandcastles, hovering seagulls, sunscreen and flip-flops. Truly one of my favorites. The second cake pictured was for the adult beach lover. Aqua ombre waves of buttercream on the side and hand painted seashells and sand on top! A very serene cake.
The third cake is for a girl who loves the beach, loves dolphins and lighthouses. It took me to a scene from a North Caroline beach. One I hope to visit someday.

So we'll see what the summer holds. Will I do any beach cakes? Or are they most needed/ requested in the winter in memeory of a warmer, sunnier and sandier time.

Minecraft, Superhero and Spiderman Lego Cakes

This is a post for all those little birthday boys, whose cake dreams came true!

When I use to work in a grocery store, decorating some 15-20 cakes a day, I did mostly flowers and balloons on cakes. There was an occasional drawn and airbrushed picture or wedding cake, but balloons and flowers dominated my day. Now that I do custom cakes, I hardly get the opportunity to repeat my work, which is why I love being out on my own. The variety, the thrill of a challenge and the never ending ideas my clients bring me! It really is the best. So when I  get orders for a minecraft cake, a superhero and lego cake I get the opportunity to try new designs, dive into a world that I've never even heard of and create things I never thought possible.

My cake dreams come true too, every time I pick up a spatula, pipe some buttercream or sculpt a piece of fondant!
